Cardi B Cleared in $24M Assault Case After Jury Rules in Her Favor

Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has been cleared of assault by a Los Angeles jury in a $24 million lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis, who claimed the star attacked her outside a doctor’s office in 2018.

Ellis alleged that Cardi scratched her cheek with a 3-inch fingernail and spat on her, but the jury took less than an hour to dismiss all charges — including assault, battery, negligence, and false imprisonment.

At the time of the incident, Cardi B was four months pregnant with her first child, a fact that wasn’t yet public. The case stemmed from a heated confrontation at her obstetrician’s office, which had closed early to protect her privacy. According to Cardi, Ellis followed her, filmed her, and refused to give her space, sparking a profanity-filled shouting match.

Cardi strongly denied ever touching or spitting on the guard. Her testimony was backed by her doctor and a receptionist, Tierra Malcolm, who said Ellis was the aggressor and even swung her arms in an attempt to hit Cardi, accidentally injuring Malcolm instead.
